Corona care kit and conscientization campaign: Help for refugees

In this current period of a global pandemic the already harsh situation of the Nicaraguan people, who have been fighting against an authoritarian regime for more than two years, has gotten more challenging due to a complete lack of support from the government who have the responsibility to cope with this situation.

The challenges faced by the Nicaraguan asylum seekers in The Netherlands are only further exacerbated by the very limited resources they have at their disposal. We want to provide material assistance in the form of supplementary and medical equipment for them, to be prepared. They currently have little or don’t have any of this material at all. We are aware of the huge demand for these materials and we take into consideration that there are others who also need them. Therefore, we want to give the Nicaraguan asylum seekers in The Netherlands only the equipment that they need.

For that reason, we have different kits with different materials and prices. This is planned to be delivered as quickly as possible since we are all aware of the efforts to reduce the impact that the virus can have, on our society.

Humanitarian aid: Help for Nicaragua

Due to the silence of the state and the lack of information, thousands of Nicaraguans were and are exposed to the COVID-19 virus. The dispersion and appearance of hundreds of possible cases alarm the population and triggers anguish in the situation that could be developed in the following weeks.

We are currently developing a campaign to help different vulnerable groups in Nicaragua, which are:

  • Nursing homes for the elderly
  • Orphanages
  • Oncology Centers
  • Community health clinics

The idea is to provide medical materials, cleaning supplies and basic survival products to the organizations present within these groups, supporting them and extending a hand to provide professional medical help by volunteer doctors.

We work with organizations throughout Nicaragua in the main affected or high-risk areas.

These Humanitarian Aid Kits will contain:

Soluble serum and if possible intravenousJar of powdered milk with nutrients
MasksLiquid alcohol
Alcohol gelDisinfectant Wipes
ThermometersSurface Disinfectant Liquid
Basic grainsCleaning supplies
VitaminsNebulizers and masks

In order to help Nicaraguan Small and mediumsized enterprises (SMEs) that have been affected by the COVID-19 crisis, we want to get all our material and supplies from them.
That’s why we are developing a list of collaborators and SMEs that are willing to work for the success of this campaign.

Direct purchase to SMEs:

  1. Farmers: basic grains.
  2. Organization of Volunteers: masks.
  3. Local stores: Cleaning and alcohol supplies.
  4. Local Grocery stores: Basic household items.
  5. Medical equipment supplies.

Group of volunteers: (minimum specs)

  1. Doctor and Paramedic: Recognize and treat zones of infection. Give small checkups to users and workers.
  2. Nurse: Give recommendations to users and workers.

Media campaign: Let’s talk about COVID-19

In collaboration with different communication agencies and affiliated organizations of the Nicaraguan diaspora, we will be developing and distributing precautionary measures based on the specific situation that the Nicaraguan population is going through, through different media and activities.

The majority of the Nicaraguan population do not have sufficient resources to buy medical supplies, to stay home or inform themselves about the present pandemic that is sweeping our planet. We also have to take into account that thousands are being forced to continue providing physical assistance in their study centers, workplaces, and activities with a high agglomeration of people.

It is for these reasons that our group is working hard to create information that can reach all parts of the country, in a way that can help the population to be informed and prepared to protect themselves within their daily activities.
At the same time, we want to raise awareness about what’s happening in Nicaragua to the world, and develop an open channel to discuss ways to help each other.

  • Media Kit
Development of infographics that users can download from our website with formats that can be distributed and shared in social networks. Based on international health organizations, epidemiologists and other medical professionals.

  • Health awareness videos
Creation of videos where we call the users to increase awareness of what’s happening in Nicaragua, what to do in case of a COVID-19 infection, how does it feel to have COVID-19, and others topics to help people understand about the real impact of the virus and stop the spreading of fake news.
  • Virtual events and activities

Develop virtual events with open dialogue platforms between several people where they can interact talking about a specific topic while the spectators can also interact in the dialog through questions and answers in real-time.
