Organisaties slaan de handen ineen en vormen Nieuwe Vredesbeweging: \u2018Militarisering en oorlogspolitiek moeten gestopt worden\u2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

23 sept<\/strong> \u2013 Diverse organisaties uit de vredesbeweging, de klimaatbeweging en de dekoloniale beweging bundelen de krachten in een coalitie met de naam De Nieuwe Vredesbeweging. Samen pleiten zij voor demilitarisering, dialoog en de-escalatie vanuit een algemeen streven naar vrede. Ook verzetten zij zich tegen imperialistisch geweld zoals de door het westen gesteunde genocide op de Palestijnse bevolking in Gaza.<\/p>\n

Internationale conflicten ontstaan niet zomaar en kunnen met diplomatieke inzet voorkomen en be\u00ebindigd worden. Militair geweld zorgt wereldwijd voor onbeschrijflijk veel leed: door oorlog vallen er talloze menselijke slachtoffers en hele ecosystemen worden vernietigd. Dit alles onder het mom van \u2018veiligheid\u2019 en \u2018vrede\u2019. Daarbij maakt militarisering ook de Nederlandse samenleving onvrijer en gevaarlijker. Ondertussen verdienen wapenproducenten kapitalen over de rug van al dat leed. Dat moet stoppen. Dat is de visie van De Nieuwe Vredesbeweging.<\/p>\n

\u2018Ook Nederland speelt een kernrol in internationaal conflict en geweld\u2019, zegt woordvoerder Jakob de Jonge. \u2018Zo doet Nederland gretig mee aan de escalaties tussen machtsblokken met het leveren van aanvalwapens die tot diep in Rusland ingezet mogen worden en levert het militaire en politieke steun voor de Isra\u00eblische genocide op de Palestijnse bevolking.\u2019 Tegelijkertijd wordt ook de Nederlandse samenleving gemilitariseerd. De defensiebudgetten schieten omhoog en worden betaald met bezuinigingen op onderwijs en cultuur. Daarbij wordt zelfs gesproken over het dwingen van bedrijven om te investeren in wapens en het opnieuw invoeren van de dienstplicht. Ook worden op korte termijn mensen gedwongen hun huizen uitgezet om plaats te maken voor NAVO-munitiedepots. \u2018Dit zijn schadelijke en ondemocratische ontwikkelingen die de wereld en Nederland niet veiliger maken, maar juist gevaarlijker. Daar zullen wij ons tegen verzetten\u2019, aldus Wendela de Vries van Stop

Organizations join forces and form New Peace movement: ‘Militarisation and war politics must be be stopped’<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n

23 Sept<\/strong> \u2013 Various organisations from the peace movement, the climate movement and the decolonial movement join forces in a coalition called The New Peace Movement. Together, they advocate demilitarization, dialogue and de-escalation out of their shared desire for peace. They also oppose imperialist violence such as the Western-backed genocide of the Palestinian population in Gaza.<\/p>\n

International conflicts do not arise out of the blue and can only be prevented and resolved through diplomatic efforts. Military violence causes indescribable suffering worldwide: under the guise of ‘security’ and ‘peace’, war brings countless human casualties and the destruction of entire ecosystems. While arms manufacturers make astronomical profits off the back of all this suffering, militarization also makes Dutch society less free and more dangerous. That has to stop. That is the vision of The New Peace Movement.<\/p>\n

‘The Netherlands also plays a key role in international conflicts and violence,’ says spokesman Jakob de Jonge. ‘For example, the Netherlands eagerly participates in the escalations between power blocs by providing offensive weapons that can be used deep into Russia and provides military and political support for the Israeli genocide of the Palestinian population.’<\/p>\n

At the same time, Dutch society is also being militarized. Defence budgets are skyrocketing and are being paid for with cuts in education and culture. There is even talk of forcing companies to invest in weapons and reintroducing conscription. In the meantime, people are being forcibly evicted from their houses to make way for NATO ammunition depots. ‘These are harmful and undemocratic developments that do not make the world nor the Netherlands safer, but rather more dangerous. We stand against this,’ said Wendela de Vries of Stop Wapenhandel.<\/p>\n

‘We consist of a diverse group of people and organisations, from young to old, who have found each other because of our shared concern about, and commitment against, war violence and militarisation. It is a positive development that young climate organisations are also increasingly aware of the destructive consequences of the military industry and war politics,’ says Jakob de Jonge.<\/p>\n
